He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Geography from NUI Galway (2007) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from NUIG (2008). As an Assistant Principal, Alan plays a key role in shaping the next generation of educators, mentoring and developing trainee teachers to uphold the highest standards of professional practice. His dedication to academic excellence extends beyond the classroom—he has written comprehensive Leaving Certificate History notes, providing students with structured guidance and in-depth topic coverage.

In collaboration with members of the Department of History at NUI Galway, Alan has also developed a proven essay-writing template that helps students master exam techniques, refine analytical skills, and achieve top grades. His innovative approach and structured teaching methods have consistently led to exceptional student results.

Beyond the Classroom: A Passion for Sport & Leadership

Alan’s leadership extends far beyond the classroom. A lifelong GAA enthusiast, he has played a pivotal role in developing both athletes and coaches. As a player, Alan was part of Galway’s All-Ireland U21 football championship-winning team in 2005 and played club football with distinction for St. Michael’s.

As a coach, Alan has enjoyed tremendous success, leading the Galway minor football team to All-Ireland victory in 2022—a career highlight. He is employed as a Connacht GAA tutor, delivering accredited coaching courses and providing expert mentorship to coaches across Galway. His impact on schools’ GAA development has been significant, guiding his school to its first-ever ‘A’ GAA title.
